Trying something new

Anyone who knows me knows how much I like pop culture...and not the hip kind of pop culture that's cool to talk about. But since most of my friends are married or busy doing responsible adult-like things, I don't have anyone to share in my enthusiasm. So I'm trying something new.

Talking to my roommate has officially been taken off the list of possibilities. He has vowed to stab me with a butter knife if I threaten to talk about Britney Spears or change the channel from How It's Made to Bad Girls Club. Actually, I'm not allowed to have the remote at all when he's in the room, so I'm subject to his nauseating rapid-fire channel changing - mostly involving American's Funniest Videos, the Weather Channel, Man vs. Wild and The Daily Show.

So, I'm creating a new blog just for my pop culture obsession. I know there are a million blogs about pop music and TV and all that. And I'm not as in touch as I used to be so I don't even have the most interesting and well-informed things to say. I don't know if it's going to ever be worth reading, but it makes me happy to have an outlet. Something about all that TV watching and gossip magazine reading that gives me purpose...

Anyway, find it here: http://pop-snacks.blogspot.com/

DMV Delights

Is it possible to spend two hours at the DMV and still leave with a smile?

There were about six different entrance doors with no explanation and about 18,000 people inside shuffling through lines - not perhaps the best set-up for a good time. But despite the many many lines and forms and questions I didn't know answers to, I left with a newly licensed vehicle and not even the tiniest amount of hostility.

Maybe it's a sign that this year will be a good one after all.

Most addictive TV shows:
Gossip Girl
Parking Wars
CSI: Miami reruns
Yo Gabba Gabba!
Dirty Sexy Money

Guilty pleasure #12

This isn't new but I just love it.

Pop 08 - Tunes

Along with millions of other people, I'm throwing my two cents in about the best pop culture from 2008. Only when I say pop culture, I'm referring to the syrup-y sweet, superficially bad for you pop that keeps USA Today and VH1 in business.

Tunes, part one...

Best Brit import (TIE): Estelle "American Boy" and Duffy "Mercy"

Best break-up song: Leona Lewis "Better in Time"

Most overplayed song that you just can't get out of your head: T.I. "Whatever You Like"

Best dance song (TIE): Britney Spears "Womanizer" and Beyonce "Single Ladies" and Neyo "Closer"

Guilty pleasure #11

I saw him play in LA a year and a half ago and was hooked, so it's not a guilty pleasure so much as just a regular pleasure.
